TWH Travels: Maui, Hawaii

Hawaii. I think the one place on earth that you can go to all the time without feeling bored is HAWAII. From the fresh poke, to the perfect weather all year round, you really can’t go wrong with this destination. In early fall this year, we decided for the first time ever to travel with a group of friends and our kids (yep – that’s right, kids)! I’m not going to lie, at first we were a bit hesitant because of the size of the group and the fact that there were multiple KIDS on the trip – I didn’t know if we would survive. Honestly, we’ve travelled with Miles to Mexico, Portland, Seattle, the Oregon Coast, the Dominican Republic all while he was under 2 because hey he’s still FREE! Since Miles would be turning 2 in November we decided that this was our last trip before we would have to start paying for the guy.

I was terrified of the plane ride. I mean in all it’s about 10 hours or so from Toronto, with a layover and if you know Miles, you know that kid is an ACTIVE little kid. He surprised me this trip. He was able to sit down for longer than I thought he would and was able to watch shows on the airplane so Roy and I took turns distracting him. In fact, all the kids were great flyers and us as parents were pleasantly surprised.

Travelling in groups, especially with kids isn’t the easiest but it’s doable as long as you’re flexible and the group understands that not everyone wants to do the same things! There were a few days where Roy, Miles and myself headed out on little day trips while others stayed in the resort because that’s just our idea of vacationing. We trekked with Miles to see the heart-shaped rock at Nakalele Blowhole, spent the day at different beaches like Kapalua Beach, Baby Beach, Napili Bay, and explored the surf town, Paia (one of my absolute faves and is highly recommended)!

We also wanted to make sure we had some great photos captured by a photographer on the Island. I knew, that I had to contact Ashley Goodwin because I’ve basically been stalking her photos on Instagram ever since I started to follow her on Instagram. Her film photography is everything and we’re so lucky to have been able to time a session with her. A big thank you to my good friend Suzie for doing my hair and Ashley for being so patient with us and capturing such a great trip.
Here are some of our faves from our film shoot below!
