A Room Refresh and My Sleep Routine

So, I have a confession to make: we used to love bringing Miles into our bed when he woke up too early or needed to be nursed early in the morning. I was constantly in zombie mode and it worked for me…until one day he feel off the bed! Thank goodness the fall wasn’t bad but it only took that one time for us to stop this routine. Ever since then, we always make a more conscious effort to ensure our bedroom is our haven and not a place for Miles. No toys, no clutter, and most importantly no busy toddler taking over yet another space!

We started by removing any extra furniture and random knick knacks – Marie Kondo style. We then gave our bed a new look with Casper’s Linen Sheets! I’ve always wanted linen sheets but never actually made the investment. I know the cost of linen sheets is higher but from what I’ve heard they are an all-year round kind of fabric and worth the investment. They stay cool with your body in the summer and warm in the winter. We ended up choosing the Oat coloured set which included a flat and fitted sheet, 2 pillowcases and a duvet cover. I preferred to keep the sheets all the same colour but if you would like to change it up, you can purchase the items separately to add more colour and variation. For me, comfort is number is key because honestly, we as parents don’t get to sleep in, might have rough nights and you know the story…!

I thought that linen sheets would take a while to break in because I’ve heard that linen sheets may not be as soft as other sheet sets  but these were pretty damn c o m f y from the start. They’re prewashed to help break in some softness and honestly, we absolutely love them. I want to be honest because these sheets were gifted to us from Casper, but I have been dying to give them a try and I am SOLD on my next set! ! I love everything about them, from their look to the feel and comfort.

Since we changed up our sheets, I thought that I would also start making changes in my sleep routine too. Every night before going to bed, I have started to get off my phone about half and hour to an hour before heading upstairs. I’m trying to be more intentional about this time, weather I read something or watch a show on tv instead, but I want to make this a time where I am not glued to my phone screen. Before this, I used to pass out on the couch but found that I was having even worse sleep than if I went to bed right away even if I would sleep a good 10 hours or so.  I have also started to try out Casper’s newGLOW light to see if this will also help with falling asleep as well. I actually tried it one night where I was wide awake and put a timer on it for about 45 minutes. I totally PASSED OUT. I don’t know if it’s because the light got me into a more sleepy mode, or if I was tired and didn’t know it or maybe even a combination of the two. But the point is, it helped me lay there and unwind. The light can be dimmed as well if you’re concerned it might be too bright but I found the medium setting to be perfect for me!

For me, it’s important to have a sleep routine now for myself just like the one we have for Miles. I’m working on my mental self because I find winter months are especially hard on the mind. I’m going to give this sleep routine another month or so, and will keep you guys posted on how it’s going. I hope you guys are also giving yourself some self-care and self-love because honestly, you need to love yourself first before anyone else.

We also added the Sage Quilt for extra warmth if needed (but also for some visual texture).
