Despite being one of many products we carry, the Cambie Blanket has become synonymous with our shop and is what we are best known for. For this reason, I thought I should share its origins and how we source our most coveted product. My link to South American culture is my mother, who is originally from Peru. As most of her side of the family still lives there, I have spent much of my upbringing in Peru.

I have always been fascinated with the textiles of Latin America and recognized a great opportunity to bring these beautiful blankets back with me to Canada. I started working closely with a team to customize the blankets — the patterns inspired by traditional ones commonly found in Peruvian textiles, and colours selected to suit the taste of a Canadian customer base. I also worked closely with my team to create a high quality blend of yarn to ensure blankets that carry the Cambie name are not only vibrant and beautiful, but durable and functional, as well.

Here are a few ways to use and make the most of a Cambie blanket, as suggested by us here at Team Cambie and our wonderful customers!

Blanket or Throw: A blanket is an easy way to add a pop of personality to any space. Our customers like to keep theirs on the end of bed for additional warmth at night or in their living space to curl up with on the sofa while watching a movie or with a good book.

Oversized Scarf or Shawl: We were quite surprised when we discovered customers were using for our blankets as shawls and consider it a testament to the importance of a well designed product. We recently hung a mirror in our store, as clients kept requesting to try on our blankets to see how the different colours look against their complexion. With our Toronto winters, the Cambie blanket has become a great accessory in colder months.

Travel: The Cambie blanket makes a great travel companion thanks to its versatility. It’s light weight makes it an easy item to fold or roll up and pack, though it’s stylish nature also makes it easy to use as a wearable piece and transition to a throw for longer trips.

Gift: Our customers have made Cambie blankets a very popular gift option for weddings (almost guaranteed to make you the most favourable guest), as well as housewarmings, and birthdays. A thoughtful token, they are well received of all ages groups, proven to be successful gifts for almost every occasion and holiday.
