Every new year, I think all of us make a promise to ourselves to become more fit, lose weight or to make healthier choices. I admit, I myself continue to make these commitments every year. By mid year, they may not seem so important but the whole point is to at least try and stay on track if you’ve set yourself some goals. As the new year rings in, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite goodies to motivate you to hit the gym…because when you look good, you feel good (and you’ll feel even better after that workout)!
FABLETICS – I love Kate Hudson because every role she plays is always the same: she’s herself and I immediately want to be her bff. Even her less than a minute commericals drew me into her new affordable athletics brand. It’s a subscription based program, so you can easily choose an outfit online and get it shipped to your frontstep every month. Currently, I’m enjoying their Salar Leggings, which comes in a multitude of colours and patterns!
Nike – The classic. You can never go wrong with a good pair of Nikes. To be honest I was overwhelmed when I walked into a store to pick out a new pair of sneakers (the last time I bought a pair was three years ago)! I quickly learned those shoes showing up on Instagram were not always just for fashion but also for function. Different lines are meant for different things so one person’s shoes may not necessarily be your perfect pair! With the help of a sales associate, I found the perfect shoe (not to mention an ugrade from my old pair) for my needs. I ended up with the Nike Free TR 5 Flyknit Women’s Training Shoe known for their lightweight Flyknit upper that adapts to the shape of your foot, good for cardio, strength training and other gym workouts that demand flexibility and support.
Peace Collective – If you’re looking for something to throw over on your way to the gym, you can depend on some good crew necks or sweaters from Peace Collective. Their designs are simple and show our Canadian Pride! They’re a local company that also donates two healthy meals and a snack to a child in the Canadian educational system through the Breakfast for Learning organization with every garment purchase. ***As an added bonus, use promo code: “thiswildheart” for 15% off all orders!***
Glow Headphones – If you’ve got enough clothes already, check out some accessories! These headphones should be a staple for evening runners! Winter brings earlier, darker evenings and I know even when walking home from work, or to the gym, I want to be seen as a pedestrian. This are probably the coolest thing I’ve found so far while looking for some new gear. Glow uses state of the art laser technology and pulsates to the beat of your music with vibrant laser light. You can also control the laser intensity (bold or subtle) through the Glow App and even adjust tunes, reply to text messages or snap photos all without looking at your phone using the 5-way remote control. Comes in Blue and Red, sold exclusively at Bell.
Greenhouse Juice Co.
Greenhouse Juice Co. – Okay this one isn’t really gear, but thought it’d be nice to treat yourself after a hard workout! Another local company that makes (and also can deliver if you’re not willing to go out in the cold on one of those winter mornings) delicious cold-pressed, organic juices. I’ve tried the Standard 1 day Cleanse with my husband right after the holidays (a much needed one at that), and also have treated myself to some juices on their own. My favourites so far are Gold Rush, East of Eden and any of the milks! They also offer one juice + a Root’s Yoga Studio class when you bring in 10 empty bottles! Talk about reduce, reuse and recycle! ***Currently offering 15% all Cleanses in-store until January 18 2016***
