Baby’s First Room: A Nursery Reveal

Finally! This post was planned to go live near the end of last year. I planned on taking photos and finish putting things away in Miles’ Nursery before he arrived. Regardless of whether  his room was ready or not, he arrived about a week early! Well, I guess it’s better late than never right guys (Sorry!)? I’m glad we spent the last several months with things not fully hung on the walls, and piles laying around because I changed the room quite a bit from what I had initially envisioned. In particular, I took time to add special pieces to make it more colourful and with actually meeting Miles, I was able to choose some items that I think he’ll enjoy later on. At first, I wanted the room to be very monochrome, but soon decided to add some fun to it with more colours, textures and just kid stuff! So, without further delay, I give you, Miles’ Nursery in what used to be our office.

With the nursery, I wanted to keep neutral tones in the key pieces of furniture such as our Baby Letto Lolly Crib, Ikea dresser and Ikea Shelf Unit (that I added legs to). My hope is that this way, when Miles is older, he won’t fight me too much on having to change his room around when it’s time to redecorate for a big boy room. My favourite corner in this room is definitely where our Monte Design Grano Glider Recliner sits. This was our biggest investment but you really do get a lot of use out of the nursing chair! I sit here a few times a day, nursing Miles and my husband, Roy, enjoys story time with Miles here before bed. I also chose this piece in a neutral natural cotton/linen colour called beach in hopes that if we ever have another little one, it’ll fit in both a little girl or boy’s room. Beside the chair, I found it very useful for a little side table to keep things like a night light, nipple cream (yes please!), cell phone and any other knick knacks you may need to get your hands on while nursing. I found ours at Ikea that duals as storage for Miles’ blankets.

Blackout curtains were really important for this room because our home gets a little too much light – great for photos but not so much for baby naps. I opted for this one from Ikea, but as you can see they just a tad bit short. It does the job, so we just kept them up. Plus, I didn’t have time to return them because Miles arrived just after we had already put them up!

This little corner has become the focal point of the room. I have some shelves across the wall to hold his favourite toys, images and books. On the bottom shelf, I placed books that are better for him to read at a younger ages, and books that he can grow into at the top. Some of my favourite things on this shelf are the LetterBoard Co. board  and Artifact Baby book.

Beside our nursing chair is the crib. I found this quite convenient to transfer Miles into the crib after nursing him in the chair. I had originally placed the crib a bit further and every time I had to move Miles into the crib, it felt like it was a million miles away (no pun intended)! So, a tip for you mamas, have the crib close in proximity to your nursing area! Also, some good pillows are key to help support your back for all those feedings.

We stored some fun knit dolls and pillows in this pom pom hamper which I’m pretty sure every nursery has because they are so great for anything and everything!

Above Miles’ crib is a limited edition EverLaser Kids x This Wild Heart sign! Isn’t it so sweet? I can’t wait to have available it available in the shop soon! Of course, we can’t forget the felt sheep mobile that hangs just above the crib as well!

This simple but adorable Hartland Brooklyn Rainbow art print is just above our Ikea changing table/dresser for Miles and keeps him distracted while I do diaper changes and not to mention adds some fun to the space. I spruced up the dresser by adding small handles from Anthropologie which are not available anymore but I love these ones here. I also mentioned the best diaper changer in my recent post about Must-Have Nursery items post and yes it’s a little splurge but totally worth not having to wash change pad covers!

One of the most important things in Miles’ nursery is the Dyson Humidifier. It truly makes a difference in hydrating the space in the winter months (especially in Canada) and cooling in the summer, helping keep Miles’ room comfortable all the time. Also, I’m totally in love with our Dyson products…hardcore adulting over here!

I found that a small rack very useful to hold Miles’ best outfits and my wraps and slings for quick and easy access while keeping things organized and tidy. It also helps to visualize outfits and keep you from having to dig through drawers on the whim. I added these Chalk Full of Design boards to sit on the rack and can’t wait to fill out the Pray for all the Things one with Miles one day!

Thanks for following along on this crazy but humbling journey. As a thank you check out this Instagram Post to enter to win items for your own nursery, or perhaps for someone you know!
I also want to give a very special thanks to those who have gifted Miles pieces to make his little room come together and for waiting so long for this post!
